Located on Gertrude Street at the city end of Brunswick Street, Radio Bar is an eclectic hole-in-the-wall that is easy to miss but well worth visiting. It is one of those dark, intimate venues ideal for those in search of a good buzz and good music to match. At night, it is a bar that boasts a nice selection of beer, wine, spirits and bar eats.
Mind you, this isn’t one of those wild hotspots where you’re going to break a sweat on the dance floor but rather a place for the toe tappers and head nodders that like having the option of holding an actual conversation with someone. Radio also functions as a café by day. Although the café menu is nothing extensive, it gets the job done.
The interior is deep, dark and full of character. The brick bar is certainly a feature of the space while there is a courtyard outdoors with an urban safari vibe crossed with one’s own personal garden with its array of potted plants and lush greenery.
All in all, Radio Bar is a cool spot to stop by when you’re in the area, and it makes a nice retreat from the busier bars on the main strip. The venue is warm, welcoming and the chill vibe offers some relief from the loud and hectic bars we have all grown accustomed to.
