Brought to you by the same people as Seven Seeds and Brother Baba Budan, De Clieu is without doubt one of the best places in Fitzroy to grab a coffee.
De Clieu Café is a quaint corner spot that houses a surprisingly bright and spacious interior. In addition to the wonderful café aroma, you’ll be greeted with sharp and clean décor with charming vintage touches upon walking in. Highlights of the interior space are the wide window benches ideal for enjoying a cool breeze on your face with a book in hand sipping away at one of their lovely beverages and the polished yet quirky finishes.
The subway tile accents, restoration lighting, and concrete counter only add to the experience but enough about the look of the place. The coffee is awesome and strong emphasis is put on the French press method (the best way to brew coffee). Patrons can choose from their house blend and others as well as a fair selection of teas and even soft drinks.
Even more refreshing is their food selection. Any café can make delicious food with an array of solid recipes but the fact that they use fresh ingredients from local producers gives the menu more purpose. Our favourite is the Eggs Benedict. There are also vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
To make things simple, stop by when you’re in the area. You’ll enjoy some good food and drink in a casually elegant setting with a friendly, efficient staff.
The café is open from 7am until 5pm daily, and now also open evenings on Friday and Saturday.
De Clieu is located at 187 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy: telephone (03) 9417 6498.
