Atomica Café is a Fitzroy institution with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere best described as retro rustic with modern touches. Since it is a café, we should probably talk about the coffee first.
Many will argue they serve the best in the area and yes, the coffee is pretty damn good. It was first cafe in Australia – (it claims) – to roast it’s beans onsite and while that may longer be the case, let’s face it, who cares if the coffee is great. And it is. Their selection is also good. There isn’t an extensive menu but what Atomica offers is done well.
The food is also worth trying. Our favourites include the Kim Jung Benedict sure to satiate your hunger for power as well as the El Gringo which offers exceptional texture variation and smoky flavour. We also have to mention the Lucifer which drags your taste buds into the deep dark and deliciously hot depths of hell. Too much?
Anyways, for us, Atomica is one of the top cafés in Fitzroy. Very few places have a welcoming feel worthy of making it part of your normal routine but this café is different. It has charm, the ambience is something you’d want to experience daily, and regular visits won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
Still one of the best. Open daily from 7.30/8.30am until 4.30pm.
